Any food and garden waste collected from your kerbside by
Merthyr Council is taken to a composting facility where it is
recycled over approximately an eighteen week period into soil.

Once in a ready state the soil has been used by Merthyr Council
to create beautiful features around the borough in places like the
war memorial outside the Council's main building, as well as in
local schools. The schools have all seen the huge benefits of
the good quality recycled food waste, with gigantic cabbages and
juicy strawberries grown in their school gardens.
Composting certain kitchen and garden waste at home could cut
down your rubbish by around a third, It benefits your garden and
your environment and it's easy. Compost is a complete and natural
food for your soil, it improves its structure, its water retaining
ability and its overall health. Simply place bio-degradable
material in your compost bin and let nature do the rest.
